Cory Booker Ahead of Detroit Debates: “Next Leader of This Country Must Be One Who Can Heal”

Stephen Henderson speaks with Democratic Presidential hopeful Cory Booker about some of the biggest issues facing the country.

As we get closer to the second round of Democratic debates which will take place right here in Detroit. Detroit Today has reached out to all of the Democratic candidates for president for interviews.

U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ). joined Detroit Today to talk about his candidacy and the state of the country in 2019.

Booker talks about his own family’s roots in Detroit, and says Michigan is a state that embodies that kind of place that got him into politics. It’s also a place that helped elect Donald Trump in 2016. Booker believes he can appeal to people who flipped from blue to red in that election.

“I will beat Donald Trump because we will excite more participation. We will take voters back that we lost in the last election,” he tells Henderson. “What kind of leader will emerge? Will it be one who wants to get into the gutter and use the same tactics as Trump?”

“The next leader of this country must be one who can heal,” he concludes.
