Pugh Drops Appeal, Will Pay Former Student in Sex Video Civil Case
Former Detroit Council President must pay $250,000 to ex-student he allegedly offered money to for an explicit video.
Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh is reportedly dropping his appeal of a court-ordered judgment that he pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to a former student who accused him of inappropriate behavior.
Last year a federal jury ordered Pugh to pay $250,000 to a young man he mentored in 2012 who says the former City Council President offered him money and other items in exchange for making a sexually explicit video.
Pugh appealed the order, countering that he should not have to pay because the former student had already reached a $350,000 settlement with the Detroit Public School system.
Now the Detroit News reports that Pugh will not pursue the appeal and instead will begin making the required payments.
Pugh abruptly left Council, and Detroit, after news of the charges became public and reportedly now resides in New York.
The specific terms of the settlement reached between the plaintiff and Pugh remain private.
