The Northwest Activities Center unveiled an improved gym. The facility’s gym was renovated by the bank as part of the “Fifth Third in the D” initiative, a commitment from Fifth Third Bank to invest $85 million in the city.

Coach Shaheed Saleem is on the Northwest Activities Center’s board. He says he’s been using the facility for 40 years.

“This is the best that I have ever seen since I’ve been coming up here,” Saleem says. “I mean, we were jam packed in here on Saturday mornings to play basketball and stuff like that. We went halfway…now we can go full way, now we have fresh air. I mean, it’s just a total 100 percent turnaround.”

Fifth-Third Bank invested more than $1.2 million in the center, including 50 thousand dollars for the new gym floor.

The facility also has improved showers, restrooms, and an upgraded ballroom.
