Former Detroit Council President to Stand Trial

Ex-Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh will stand trial for alleged criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh is being ordered to stand trial on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Prosecutors allege that in 2003, when Pugh worked as a television broadcaster in Detroit, he exhibited inappropriate sexual behavior with a teenager.

Pugh was elected president of the Detroit City Council a half-dozen years later.

But he abruptly stepped-down from the post in 2013 as allegations against him began to surface.

Last year a man filed a federal civil lawsuit claiming Pugh sexually harassed him when he was 17 years old and the former Council President was serving as a mentor.

A jury ruled in favor of the man, who reached a settlement with the Detroit Public School system over the matter.

Pugh fought the $250-thousand judgement against him but eventually withdrew his appeal.
