How Many Homeless in Detroit?

Homeless census underway with emphasis on veterans

Volunteers and staff from homeless organizations across Detroit plan to comb the streets tonight (WEDS) looking for those without shelter. It’s part of  an annual census conducted by the Homeless Action Network of Detroit or HAND. The data collected helps the federal government gauge homeless populations and prioritize funding. The count is required every two years by HUD but HAND Executive Director Tasha Gray tells WDET’s Amy Miller that there is momentum to end homelessness among veterans and Detroit is no exception.
