Detroit City Clerk Says Proposed Changes In Election Law Will Hurt Voters

State voting changes are designed to help Republicans suppress Democratic vote, Detroit City Clerk says.

Some Detroit officials are pushing back against an attempt by the state Legislature to change voting procedures in Michigan.

The Republican-led state House approved laws last week to eliminate so-called straight party ticket voting and change how absentee voting is conducted.

But Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter that the move by the legislature harkens back to past efforts that she claims were designed to suppress the Democratic vote.
