Wayne County Leads Nation In Population Loss
Census officials say Wayne County again leads the nation in population loss, as it has since 2005.
Newly-released Census data reveals that more people left Wayne County last year than in moved out of any other area of the country.
About 11,000 people left Wayne County between July of 2013 and July of 2014.
That’s the largest number of people to leave any county in the US, though some areas lost a bigger percentage of their population.
Wayne County remains the most populous in Michigan.
But Kent, Oakland and Macomb counties led the state in gaining new residents.
The population exodus in Wayne County is only about half of what it was just a few years ago.
Still experts say Wayne County has led the nation in population loss every year since 2005, when Hurricane Katrina drove people away from the parish that includes the city of New Orleans.
