Rep. Haley Stevens Says She’s Optimistic About COVID Relief Package

Stevens says she hopes the House will vote on a package on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Although the pandemic is reaching it’s worst stage since the spring, Congressional efforts to provide economic relief to Americans and businesses have been stalled for weeks.

Will lawmakers be able to negotiate a deal before the end of the year? At least one Democrat in Michigan says she “remains optimistic.”

Congresswoman Haley Stevens is a Democrat representing Michigan’s 11th District. She just won re-election for a second term in Congress.

“We’ve got Americans emptying out their bank accounts more than any other time,” Stevens tells Stephen Henderson on Detroit Today. “I remain optimistic… we gotta get this done. Hopefully, we’ve got the vote on Monday or Tuesday and we know what we’re doing.”

Stevens also discusses logistical hurdles of distributing coronavirus vaccines, and talks about her biggest priorities in 2021.
