As Primaries Continue, Michigan Prepares to Host Next Year’s Presidential Debate

Preparations are already underway for next year’s debates between the presidential party nominees. And Michigan will have a significant voice in those proceedings.

The University of Michigan will host one of the battles between the eventual nominees, about a month before the election.

Co-chair of the Commission on Presidential Debates Frank Fahrenkopf tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter that Michigan had to meet some strict criteria to qualify to hold the event.

But Fahrenkopf says over the past decades the nominees themselves have had some pretty strong ideas about how the debates should proceed.
