Rep. Upton and Rep. Dingell Discuss Bipartisanship Amid Impeachment

Here in Michigan, we have two members of our Congressional delegation, one Republican and one Democrat, who continue to push for bipartisanship despite the rancor.

If you haven’t heard, Congress is pretty divided right now. Add an impeachment inquiry on top of the deep divides that have existed now for years on Capitol Hill, and you get an environment that seems unlikely to produce anything that resembles a functioning legislative body. Yet, two lawmakers from Michigan are determined to maintain a working bipartisan relationship.

Congressional members Debbie Dingell and Fred Upton, both from Michigan, join Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson for a conversation about working across the aisle ahead of an event they are both attending at the Detroit Economic Club.

“It’s not OK. But let’s look at the whole train of events here. Let’s find out what happened, I’m anxious to see how the process unfolds,” says Upton, who spoke at length about the impeachment inquiry. Meanwhile, “we need everybody to come along, and at the same time, I have to keep doing my job and other things,” says Dingell.
