The Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau announced a new strategy Wednesday to draw visitors to the region.

The marketing campaign called “It’s Go Time!” will be distributed in cities including Chicago, Columbus and Indianapolis.

Larry Alexander is the Bureau’s President and CEO. He says the theme represents the next step in Detroit’s resurgence.

“As you know for years the media called us the “comeback city.” And we loved it and embraced it in our advertising campaign,” Alexander says. “But Metro Detroit is far enough along now as a tourism destination that we no longer have to compare to the past.”

Alexander also announced the city will host 10 major events and conventions in 2018 for organizations, including the National Black MBA Association and SAE World Congress. He says he expects the events to bring nearly $200 million in tourism to the city.

He says the Detroit Sports Commission is also submitting a bid for the NFL draft, which could have a $100 million economic impact on the city.
