Detroit’s oldest operating cemetery turns 175 years old; holds plenty of stories and secrets

Detroit’s oldest cemetery turns 175 years old this week. The Mount Elliott Cemetery Association formally incorporated on August 31st  1841. The cemetery, located at Lafayette and Mount Elliott, was purchased when Irish Catholic immigrants decided to purchase a burial ground of their own. Michael Chilcote is General Manager of the Mount Elliott Cemetery Association. He tells WDET’s Amy Miller that many of Detroit’s well known Christian families are buried there
