Tenant Rights Group to Register Voters in Detroit

A tenant rights group in Detroit is starting a campaign June 6 to register voters for the 2016 elections. The United Tenant Council of Councils has been registering people to vote since 2009. Its president, Dee Davis, tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the voter registration drives are open to any eligible voter.

We have a very interesting presidential race this year,” Davis says. “We need to get people registered to vote.”

Davis says the council wants to help veterans, homeless people, and former felons get registered.

They can vote,” Davis says. “We need to get that information out there.”

The drives will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays at the Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center at 33 East Adams, next to Central United Methodist Church

The deadlines to register are July 5 for the August 2 primary and October 11 for the November 8 general election.
