Architectural Firm Chosen to lead East Riverfront District Development

The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy is putting together a team to lead the development of the East Riverfront District.  Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will work with six local firms to shape the 400-acre project. Development Planner Ritchie Harrison says in addition to the architectural team, the city will create the “Creative Detroit Think Tank” led by the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Together, they’ll be with the other elements of the team; it’ll be looking at the various elements that we aim to achieve with this plan. I think there could be some very creative things that come out of that.”

Harrison says the city is calling for community feedback as the project moves forward. He says the first public meeting for the East Riverfront District plan will take place April 12th at the Outdoor Adventure Center.
