Wayne County Library System Closes Its Doors

After being in operation for almost a century, the Wayne County Library system is closing. The cities of Taylor and Ecorse are taking control of the system’s two remaining public libraries. Wayne County Librarian Maria McCarville says closing the Braille and Talking Book Library is especially bittersweet.

We were one of the original libraries authorized by the Library of Congress and an 84 year history of providing service is ending, and it’s to the people who need it the most.”

Maria McCarville, Former Wayne County Librarian

McCarville says patrons seeking services that aid the visually-impaired will have to travel to Lansing for the time being. The closures come as Wayne County deals with a $52 million structural deficit.
