Opposition To Ontario Nuke Project Grows In Michigan

Next month, a Canadian nuclear safety panel will recommend whether to approve plans to build an underground nuclear waste dump less than a mile from Lake Huron. The kind of waste Ontario Power Generation plans to store near Kincardine, Ontario would include tools and components from the company’s nuclear reactors. Some of the most vocal opponents of the project are right here in Michigan, including State Senator Phil Pavlov. His district includes the entire shoreline of Michigan’s Thumb. He tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the project poses a serious threat to the Great Lakes region.
