How Easy is it to Teach Reading?
Based on the new reading requirements for Michigan’s third graders, should we reassess how we teach reading?

Standards: Brad Biladeau, Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Administrators, called in to say that there needs to be standards in how we fix reading comprehension. “There should be a uniform recognition of how we’re going to address third grade reading proficiency,” Biladeau says.
Love: One caller said that kids need positive reinforcement to help with reading. “They need support and encouragement, not punishment,” she says.
