Oakland County Providing Hand Sanitizer, PPE for Small Businesses
The safety kits include no-touch thermometers and social distancing decals so businesses can appropriately space customers.
Oakland County is in the process of distributing 10,000 COVID-19 safety kits to assist local businesses in reopening.
County executive Dave Coulter says the packages contain a variety of items to help keep customers and employees safe.
“We’re going to pivot to help our local businesses secure these items as we move forward.” — Dave Coulter, Oakland County Executive
“Over the last couple of weeks the county’s purchased 30,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, 10,000 touch-free thermometers, 60,000 social distancing floor decals,” Coulter says. “You can put these decals on the floors in your business to help people understand where the distancing requirements are.”
Coulter says getting small business up and running again is vital to Oakland’s economy. He says 93 percent of the county’s businesses have fewer than 50 employees.
In addition to the kits, officials say personal protective equipment will be passed out to local businesses through the County’s emergency operations center, which has procured PPE for hospitals throughout the pandemic.
“We’ve gotten pretty good at securing supplies and our health systems have gotten pretty good as well,” Coulter says. “We’re going to pivot to help our local businesses secure these items as we move forward.”
The emergency operations center will continue to procure equipment for health systems.
Oakland County plans on making the safety kits available to faith-based locations once small businesses are taken care of.
