Why do Foods Keep Becoming Contaminated with Listeria?
Experts say it’s often hard to protect food from listeria contamination. Even refrigeration doesn’t do it.
It can be in your cheese, in your fruit, even in your waffles.
It’s the bacterium called listeria, which can prove fatal to the very young, the very old and those with compromised immune systems.
There have been numerous recalls of products tainted by listeria in recent years.
And the food safety expert for the watchdog organization Consumer Reports, Michael Hansen, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter that listeria can be tough for companies to get rid of.
