Mackinac Policy Conference: Sen. Debbie Stabenow talks gun control, supply chain shortages

Michigan needs to break the monopolies on meat-packing plants and add competition to the sector, says Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

A variety of political issues are concerning Michigan representatives, including higher gas prices, supply chain shortages, and gun violence. These topics and more are being discussed at the Mackinac Policy Conference.

“There are mental health challenges in other countries but they don’t have a situation where somebody who is unstable can buy military assault weapons.” — Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

Debbie Stabenow is a Democratic senator from Michigan. She says she’s hopeful that background checks, closing gun loopholes can get passed, and that Republicans will be courageous enough to take on the gun lobby.

Stabenow also notes that the issue with gun violence has to do with the ease of access the public has to guns.

“There are mental health challenges in other countries but they don’t have a situation where somebody who is unstable can buy military assault weapons and go into a school or church or grocery store,” says Stabenow. “That’s the difference.”
