The recent violent shootings have brought gun control talks back in the spotlight in Washington. Sen. Gary Peters discusses what is possible in the political arena to make gun deaths less likely in America.

Gary Peters is a Democratic senator from Michigan. He says he wants to implement “common sense” gun control.

The issue, he notes, is that it will be difficult to get 60 votes in the Senate — with 10 Republican votes — to pass gun control legislation.

“My Democratic colleagues all want to see some positive movement forward, so we have 50 votes there,” says Peters. “If we have five in discussion that gets us the 55, but the math still says we’re going to need more.”
