Legendary radio broadcaster, DJ and cultural curator Gilles Peterson is hosting a residency this week at Spot Lite Detroit.

Gilles is one of the most influential music broadcasters globally. With a stellar career on BBC Radio 6 Music and the founder of Worldwide FM, his work has been nothing short of inspiring.

It’s a multi-generational celebration of Detroit’s role as a music capital, bringing live performances from Carl Craig and Jon Dixon (along an insane line up of live musicians).

To kick off Friday, Ryan Patrick Hooper (host of In The Groove, weekdays 12 – 3 p.m.) will host a Q&A with Gilles Peterson that is free and open to the public.

Later that night, Gilles will host a next generation showcase featuring Deon Jamar, Meftah, Ahya Simone, Kesswa, Khadijah, Tammy Lakkis and WDET’s own Shigeto (host of The New Music Show with Shigeto, Saturdays 8 – 10 p.m.)

On Saturday, Peterson himself will spin records for five hours at Spot Lite. Tickets are available here.

During his Spot Lite residency, Peterson stopped by In The Groove to talk all things Detroit music, the power of curation on the radio and lots more. Watch the interview below.
