MichMash: Sen. Sarah Anthony says new gun laws are ‘big steps in the right direction’

This week marks one year since the tragic shooting at Michigan State University. How have lawmakers responded? MichMash host Cheyna Roth and Gongwer News Service’s Alethia Kasben sat down with Sen. Sarah Anthony to talk about some of the new legislation to prevent gun violence.

“Study after study show that Extreme Risk Protection Orders and safe storage save lives,” she said. “They are big steps in the right direction.”

Anthony also spoke about the proposed budget Gov. Gretchen Whitmer shared this month. The two priorities Anthony is excited about the most is making college more affordable and creating more affordable and available homes in the area.

“I don’t know what corner of our state, our most rural locations , our urban cores, who isn’t talking about housing,” she said.

Anthony is looking for different housing for senior citizens and the talent the state is trying to attract.
