Welcome to the Detroit Evening Report, a daily round-up of news that city residents need to know.

Colleagues, family and friends gathered in Detroit today for the funeral of slain Detroit Police Officer Loren Courts. Courts was killed July 6 while responding to a report of gunfire on the city’s west side. Police say 19-year-old Ehmani Davis shot at police, striking Courts while in his cruiser.

Davis was killed by police at the scene.

The funeral took place at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. Office Courts is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
