Over the course of the summer, the WDET Book Club has been reading, examining and discussing the U.S. Constitution. Through conversations on Detroit Today, reporting from the WDET newsroom and dialogue in the dedicated Facebook group, the Book Club has unpacked the origins and intent of this foundational document as well as its relevance and impact today.
Throughout the duration of the project, we’ve asked Book Club participants what they would add, change or delete from the Constitution. Suggestions ranged from creative (writing the document in purple ink) to impassioned, but many people had similar thoughts when it came to issues like voting rights, the Second Amendment and holding public office.
