The Detroit Podcast Festival returns this year as a virtual conference.

A weekend full of workshops and panel discussions will feature Detroit podcasters and industry experts to level up your podcast skills and connect you with fellow podcasters in the region. Whether it’s launching a new podcast, sharpening storytelling chops, or monetizing your project, the festival has something for podcasters of all experience levels. 

This year Featured guests include Michael May (NPR Story Lab), Ann Delisi (Essential ConversationsEssential Cooking), Shannon Cason (Homemade Stories, In Good Co.), and Abdul El-Sayed (America Dissected).

WDET Detroit Podcast Fest Events

Build Podcasting Into Your Brand 

When: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16 

What: A panel of experts will talk about integrating podcasting into your organization’s marketing and engagement strategy with a live Q&A to follow. The session is moderated by Anne Doyle (POWERING UP!) and features panelists Shannon Cason (Homemade Stories, In Good Co.), Robbin Kinnie (Motor City Woman Studios), Seth Resler (Michigan Podcast Productions), Jonathan “JG” Galloway (Audio Wave Network) and David Leins (WDET StoryMakers).

 

NPR Story Lab Feedback Session 

When: 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 

Do you have an idea for a podcast, but don’t know where to begin? WDET is bringing the NPR Story Lab workshop back to the Detroit Podcast Festival. In this feedback session, Michael May of NPR’s Story Lab will answer questions about planning and launching your podcast. The workshop will use NPR’s Project Blueprint as a guide, available here.

 

Let’s Talk About Food 

6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 

What can food tell us about our culture and history? WDET’s Ann Delisi (Essential Cooking) joins Juan Diego Ramirez (Racist Sandwich) and Serena Maria Daniels (Tostada Magazine) to talk about how food connects us, and why podcasts are a perfect place to have those conversations. The panel will be moderated by Dorothy Hernandez (Model D Media).

 

Beyond Audio: COVID Diaries and Multimedia Collaborations 

When: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18 

What: Artists and producers from WDET’s COVID Diaries project will present on the challenges to multimedia collaboration during COVID-19, using the COVID Diaries and Framed by WDET projects as a lens to discuss solutions. Moderated by David Leins with COVID Diaries editors and artists Shiraz Ahmed, Meta Stange, Courtney Wise Randolph, Amy Sacka and Rachel Elise Thomas.
