Your story isn’t going to tell itself.
Detroit StoryMakers is WDET’s initiative to support independent media makers highlighting the experiences of communities who are commonly underrepresented or misrepresented in media.
How you can get involved
Learn to produce stories for radio at trainings with WDET’s team and other local audio journalists. In order to provide a broader diversity of representation in local news and reporting, we aim to make the medium more accessible. Learn to interview, record, edit and more at our audio storytelling workshops and trainings across metro Detroit.
Applications are now closed for the 2019-2020 StoryMakers Fellowship.
Pitch and craft compelling narratives and provide deeper insight into the cultural fabric of metro Detroit. We want pitches for stories that only you can tell, stories that better illustrate the depth and nuance of your community. All work produced is paid consistent with industry rates for public radio stations and online media publishers. Story pitches are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Join the WDET StoryMakers community and tell your part of Detroit’s story. WDET is working hard to connect the hardworking, talented media makers in Detroit. Through monthly meetups and online resources, we are making space to connect current and aspiring storytellers, media makers and journalists to collaborate, share works-in-progress, and talk about what is coming next for independent producers in the region.
