Metro Detroit Concerts: Country, Indie Rock Shows Coming This Weekend
WDET’s Jeff Milo picks the top shows and concerts for the weekend of Nov. 14th.
Welcome to “Milo Minute,” the 60 seconds (or thereabouts) you need to find a local show or fest to attend this weekend. And we mean ‘local.’
Longtime Detroit music journalist Jeff Milo has been plugging ears into the Detroit scene for years with his prolific Deep Cutz blog and his YouTube series, “The Milo Show.” Here, he gives us his rundown for what music to catch this weekend that isn’t… uh… playing Little Caesars Arena, if you catch our vibe.

Friday November 15
Country Music & Americana at Outer Limits Lounge
What: Country music, roots, gothic folk and Americana at Outer Limits Lounge.
Who’s playing: I first encountered the Deluxe Country Music Band about 1 year ago, and at that point, the group had been in town for a couple of years. The singer, Keaton Butler, is also a recording engineer, as well as a musician, and she’s spent time working in Nashville, as well as Bloomington. DCM is joined by Why Bother at the Outer Limits Lounge this week, along with singer/songwriter Libby DeCamp.
Handgrenades are DJs at a night of indie rock at PJs Lager House
What: This show is at the Lager House, and I can guarantee a warm vibe in the room, because, for these groups, its going to probably be like a college reunion type of shindig.
Who’s playing: The Handgrenades are CultureShift favorites, definitely one of the premiere indie-rock outfits in town, distniguished by their melodies and pop sensibilities. But they’re only just the DJs for this night of music at PJs Lager House. Some of these groups were particularly in heavy rotation around the rock club scene 10 years ago, like Citizen Smile, The Ashleys, and Patrick Davy & the Ghosts, and it’s exciting to see them aligned and back in action once again.
Sounds like: “Butterflies” by The Ashleys
Saturday November 16
Singer/songwriters who both have newly released albums perform at Ziggy’s
What: So, this show, at Ziggy’s in downtown Ypsilanti, is basically an album release party, still, for both of these magnificent songwriters and singers.
Who’s playing: Kat Steih is a singer/songwriter with an amazing story and a diverse background, having drawn influences from experiences across the pond as well as here in Michigan, and her recent album, which just came out at the end of summertime, called “Hymns of the Huron.”
Anne Erlewine is another singer/songwriter who just released her debut album. She’s an artist in other realms, but finally put out her first solo batch of songs, produced with renowned Michigan indie-folk maestro, Chris Bathgate. That album is called “Over The Bones: and it just came out at the start of Autumn.
Sounds like: “Sacred Space” by Anne Erlewine
Isles of ESP at the Lager House
Who’s playing: Isles of ESP is an ambient psych-rock project of singer/songwriter Eric Dilworth
Dinner Music are another group rounding out this four band bill
Sounds like: “Holistic” by Isles of ESP
