Get Help With Tax Issues, Overdue Utility Bills At Free Event Today

The tax assistance event runs from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Northwest Activities Center in Detroit.

The Detroit office of the Internal Revenue Service is working with other government agencies to hold a tax assistance event.  The project will give Metro Detroiters an opportunity to speak with experts on a wide range of issues from tax problems to overdue water bills.

Rob Heitmeyer is Managing Counsel at the Detroit office of the I-R-S.  He says the goal of the event is to better serve the community.

“It can be difficult to get someone from the Internal Revenue Service, even on the telephone,” says Heitmeyer.  “Certainly, there’s not that many walk-in sites around the state.  Likewise, with the state of Michigan, it’s just difficult to find that person who can help you.”

Heitmeyer says agencies taking part include the Detroit Water and Sewage Department, the State of Michigan’s Unclaimed Property Division, and the Wayne County Treasurer’s office. The tax assistance event runs from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Northwest Activities Center in Detroit.
