Brilliant Detroit Converts Blight into Neighborhood Centers. See Its Latest Renovation

WDET’s Sascha Raiyn interviews CEO Cindy Eggleton about the non-profit and its latest house conversion.

Brilliant Detroit renovates abandoned homes in the city, then fills those homes with programs to create what it calls “kid success neighborhoods.” The focus is on education, health and family support for children – from “belly to eight” – and their families.

Its seventh location opened this summer on Prairie Street in the Fitzgerald neighborhood. The organization plans to have 11 houses by the end of the year.

“The essence of it is that people feel they belong,” says CEO Cindy Eggleton. “They feel it’s a second home, they can come and get love and safety.”
