Hall of Fame Gymnast Wendy Hilliard: We Must Create More Opportunity for Detroit Youth

Wendy Hilliard is a Hall of Fame rhythmic gymnast and the first African American gymnast to represent the United States in international competition. She’s also a native of Detroit and returns to the city to expand opportunities for young gymnasts through her foundation and in conjunction with the City of Detroit.
Wendy Hilliard’s mother, Gwen Hilliard, is being honored posthumously by Detroit City Council for her role in making high-level gymnastics available through the city’s recreation department.
Hilliard joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to talk about her career, her mother’s role in the city, and continuing the work of creating more opportunity for Detroit youth through gymnastics and beyond.
