President Donald Trump told a crowd of Michiganders on his most recent visit that he wants to see the Soo Locks upgraded and brought into the modern world. But Trump also has proposed cutting funding for Great Lakes restoration efforts.

So is he a friend to the Great Lakes, or isn’t he?

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has been acutely focused on Great Lakes issues during her tenure in Washington D.C. She joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson on Mackinac Island for the Detroit Regional Chamber’s 2018 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Henderson and Stabenow discuss the status of the Soo Locks and efforts to improve them, Enbridge Energy’s Line 5 oil and gas pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac. They also talk about the status of the U.S. Farm Bill, a gargantuan and critical piece of legislation that Stabenow has worked closely on for years.
