Metro Detroit Group Plans Protest at R. Kelly Concert Over Underage Sex Claims
A Metro Detroit group says it will stage a protest at a R. Kelly show planned at the new Little Caesars Arena. Group says Kelly should not play at an arena partly funded by taxpayers due to his history of allegedly abusing underage girls.
A group of activists say they plan to protest musician R. Kelly’s performance at Little Caesars Arena.
R. Kelly has produced massive hits like “I believe I can Fly.”
But the singer has also long been accused of sexual misconduct with underage girls.
Activists with the non-profit group “Wayne County SAFE” say someone with Kelly’s history should not be allowed to perform at a facility like the new Detroit arena because it was built in part with taxpayer dollars.
Organizers say the group plans to stage a protest before Kelly joins Charlie Wilson on stage for the latest stop on their “Tale of Two Kings” tour.
Kelly has consistently said he is innocent of any sexual misconduct allegations and has never been convicted of harassment or assault, except for a charge of battery about two decades ago.
A jury found him not guilty of child pornography charges in 2008.
He has, however, settled numerous lawsuits out-of-court that were filed by women accusing him of misconduct.
