Holiday Week for Kids at the DIA

The Detroit Institute of Arts plans a week of fun for young visitors.

DIA Puppet Show

The Detroit Institute of Arts has special programs and hours this week.

Visitors will be able to make a variety of puppets at drop-in workshops. There will be an interactive puppet performance Tuesday and Wednesday.

Emily Bowyer is the Family Program Coordinator for the D-I-A. She says the museum invites children for drawing in the galleries…and to play “gallery games.”

“[Gallery games are] a really great way to – especially if you have little ones – to engage them with the art in the galleries,” Bowyer said. “So, their kind of like games that will get them looking at specific pieces or looking for specific colors in the galleries. So, that’s a kind of cool thing.”

The museum is open until 7 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. It will close at 10 pm Friday and 5 pm Sunday.

Admission is free to residents in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne Counties.
