Local Governments Want More Revenue Sharing from Lansing

MML says state is under funding local towns and cities by 600 million this year

Governor Rick Snyder presented his proposed budget to the legislature yesterday. The recommendations include a $50 per student increase in spending on education, just over 10-billion in general fund spending and almost 50-million for continued improvements to Flint’s water system. But, the budget does not include increases in revenue sharing for local governments. Chris Hackbarth is the Director of State and Federal Affairs for Michigan Municipal League. He tells WDET’s Amy Miller  state officials keep promising to look for ways to increase funding to local governments, but Hackbarth says so far there is no plan in place.
