What To Expect From Women’s Marches In Washington D.C. And Detroit
Attorney and former state lawmaker Rashida Tlaib will march on Saturday and joins Detroit Today.
Friday is a day of celebration for Donald Trump and his supporters in Washington D.C. But on his first full day in office, tens of thousands of people — in Washington and many other cities around the country — will gather to protest. The Women’s March on Washington and similar demonstrations will call for expanding and protecting women’s rights.
Rashida Tlaib, attorney at Sugar Law Center and former state representative from Detroit, talks with Detroit Today Host Stephen Henderson about the transition of power and the effect it will have on women and other minority groups.
“Right now, even in the democratic party, there is so much institutional racism right there,” says Tlaib.
“I think even prior to President Obama’s election, even being a young Democrat, I saw some of those issues… I truly believe that we need to completely step back and look at how we can truly engage folks.”
Tlaib says that she loves how women around the country are leading protests and marches.
