Michigan Secretary of State: “Democracy is Not a Spectator Sport”
Ruth Johnson encourages people to vote
Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says turnout for the 2016 presidential election could be around 65 percent. She says it was 64.1 percent in 2012. Four years before that, two out of three Michigan residents voted. Johnson tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller there’s been a lot of interest in this election, based on the number of people who voted in the presidential primary elections in March. She’s encouraging people to use her web site to find out if they’re registered, where they’re supposed to vote, and what’s on their local ballot. Johnson also cautions voters not to take pictures of themselves or anyone else at the polls. If they’re caught, she says local election officials may call police, and their ballots will be rejected.
