Levin Asks IRS to Audit Trump Foundation
Head Dem on House Ways and Means requests IRS audit Trump Foundation, see if charity funds covered business debts.
The ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee is calling on the IRS to audit the Donald J. Trump Foundation.
The move comes following reports that the Republican presidential nominee allegedly used funds from the charitable foundation to pay business expenses.
This week the Washington Post reported that Trump used more than a quarter-million dollars from his foundation to settle disputes against his business interests.
Now Michigan Democratic Congressman Sander Levin, the ranking member on the House Ways and Means Committee, is requesting that the IRS investigate whether Trump may have violated prohibitions against using charitable funds for personal benefit.
Levin said, “I think it’s important to understand and to get a straight answer. Were these monies used (and) for what purposes?”
The Trump campaign counters that the report is biased and inaccurate and that there is no motive for the foundation to make improper payments.
