Major Automakers Take Sales Hit in August

Boom in auto business may be over. Most automakers saw sales drop in August. Only Fiat Chrysler sales rose.

Most major automakers took a sales hit in August.

Ford sales dropped more than 8% while General Motors was down about 5%.

It was the same story for Japanese automakers.

Toyota’s August sales decreased 5%, Honda fell almost 4% and Nissan dropped by 6.5%.

Sales of Fiat Chrysler vehicles rose 3% in August.

Experts say the boom in auto sales over the past half-dozen years may be plateauing and automakers may have to focus on creating incentives and selling to government, corporate or rental fleets.

That was part of what drove up Fiat Chrysler’s sales in August.

But it’s not all good news for the automaker.

The German government reportedly wants the European Commission to investigate possible cheating on emissions testing by Fiat Chrysler.
