Hillary Clinton to Address Union Convention in Detroit Today
Hillary Clinton talks to union workers as she battles criticism that she backed trade deals that sent US jobs overseas.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to speak at a union convention in Detroit today.
It’s the Democratic presidential frontrunner’s second trip to the city in less than a month.
Clinton will address a crowd of three thousand attending the Service Employees International Union convention at Detroit’s Cobo Center.
The union endorsed the Democratic candidate in November.
But Clinton has battled criticism that she supported trade deals that let U.S. employers send union and other jobs overseas.
Rival candidate Bernie Sanders used that critique to help narrowly-defeat Clinton in Michigan’s presidential primary in March after pollsters predicted the former First Lady would win by double digits.
It’s the second time in recent weeks Clinton has tried to mend fences in Detroit.
Earlier this month she delivered the keynote address at the NAACP’s Fight for Freedom Fund dinner, where she said she is the best suited of the presidential contenders to fight systemic racism.
Clinton had faced anger from some critics who say a crime bill enacted during her husband’s presidency has resulted in sending a disproportionate number of African Americans to prison.
