A supermarket on Detroit’s west side invested six-point-two million dollars to double in size. Imperial Fresh Market is the largest expansion to date by an independent grocer in the city.

Co-owner Sam Shina says after 25 years in business the renovation of the store was overdue.

“We just wanted to bring a bigger store to our community, bigger departments, fresher foods. I think it’s a beautiful store for them to shop,” Shina says,

Shina says the grocery store also now includes a pharmacy and bakery. The expansion also pushed the market to double its staff, adding 50 new jobs.
