Former University of Michigan President selected to lead to the Association of American Universities.

The Association of American Universities is appointing a former Wolverine as its new president. Mary Sue Coleman retired as the President of the University of Michigan in 2014, after serving for 12 years. AAU spokesperson Barry Toiv says Coleman will be leading efforts to grow university research around the country.

“The primary agencies in the federal government that support research are the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, NASA, and so AAU spends a lot of time working with the Congress and working with those agencies to encourage support for funding of vital research.”

Toiv says the AAU consists of 62 universities, 60 of which are in the United States. He says Coleman’s term begins in June.
