Macomb County Budget Proposal Does Not Increase Taxes

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel is proposing a budget without tax hikes and layoffs.

Deputy County Executive Mark Deldin says the plan allows officials to tighten the reigns in some areas without reducing services. He says funding from the county’s property taxes is helping keep the budget balanced.

“Property values have gone up and we derive much of our revenue from the valuation of the property that exists here within Macomb County,” Deldin says. “So much to our surprise it’s coming back at a higher rate than we’ve been forecasting.”

Deldin says this is the fifth consecutive year the county executive has presented a balanced budget. The Macomb County Commission is expected to vote on the budget proposal by September.
