State Senator Virgil Smith is out of jail for now, but his political future is unclear. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged him with assaulting his ex-wife and shooting at her car outside his home Sunday morning. He was arraigned Tuesday and paid $2500 to get out of police custody. Michigan Public Radio’s Rick Pluta tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller Senate leaders–Democrats and Republicans–didn’t wait long to sanction Smith after he was charged.
