Detroit And International Diplomacy: Getting A Seat At The Table

Does Detroit have a place within international diplomacy?

Business and political stakeholders in Detroit met last week for a conference called “Diplomacy Begins Here: Detroit”. The event was one of eight across the nation. It was sponsored by the U.S. State Department, International Visitors Council of Detroit and Global Ties U.S..

The idea is to broaden the understanding of U.S. public diplomacy, foreign policy and the importance of exchange programs in the global community and marketplace. Stephen Henderson speaks with Jennifer Clinton, President of Global Ties USAmbassador Richard LeBaron, former U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait and founding Coordinator of the U.S. Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, and Marian Reich, Executive Director of International Visitors Council Detroit about why Detroit was chosen as one of the eight cities and how the city can position itself in the world of international diplomacy.
