Governor Snyder Fills Detroit Potholes to Campaign for Proposal 1
Governor Snyder is taking a tour around the state to campaign for Proposal 1.
Governor Rick Snyder filled in potholes along Michigan Avenue in Detroit today while campaigning for a ballot proposal that would raise funding to repair state roads. The Governor says he is taking a mini-bus tour across the state to encourage residents to approve Proposal 1. Snyder says the tax increase is necessary because there is not enough money in the state’s budget right now to properly fix Michigan’s roads.
“We are able to find between $ 100 million and $300 million over the last few years through the general fund, which is traditionally not used for transportation. So we tightened our belt. But that’s not enough to get us to $1.2 billion. That’s where we need the extra resources.”

If approved, Proposal 1 would increase Michigan’s sales tax by 1 percent. A vote on the statewide ballot proposal takes place May 5.
