Homeland Security Officials, Volunteers Prepare For Tornado Season

Homeland Security officials and volunteer disaster relief groups say they are ready if a tornado hits Metro Detroit.

   This weekend Detroiters will be greeted by a sound generated every first Saturday of the month: A tornado warning siren.

   It’s part of the city’s effort to prepare for the possibility of a twister touching down in the Motor City.

   All this week WDET is examining the history, the causes and the safeguards in place to deal with tornadoes in Metro Detroit.

  WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter talked with some of the officials and volunteers who are ready to launch into action in the event of a tornado-sighting…
