Detroit Metro Airport officials say they are on a heightened sense of alert this holiday weekend.

The US State Department issued a travel alert worldwide for Americans in light of last week’s attacks in Paris.

Spokesperson Brian Lassaline says the airport wants to keep fliers relaxed during this busy travel period.

“Sometimes we forget that our freedom of travel is one of our most basic freedoms,” Lassaline says. “I hope some of what we are doing here this time of year along with what we do every day from a public safety standpoint allows our customers to relax and enjoy the holidays as they were intended.”

Lassaline says the airport wants to keep traffic moving at the arrival and departure gates. He says security will keep cars from trying to park in the passenger drop-off and pick-up areas.
