Here’s The Plan for Detroit’s Riverside Park
City would gain 5 acres to expand park, give 3 acres to Ambassador Bridge company for twin span.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and the owners of the Ambassador Bridge have made a deal that could benefit both the city and the company. Here are the highlights:
- The Detroit International Bridge Company would agree to install over 1,000 new windows at the vacant Michigan Central Train Depot by the end of this year.
- DIBC would also donate $3 million to the city to expand and improve Riverside Park just west of the bridge. It would also transfer five acres of land to the city.
If the company lives up to its agreement:
- The city would transfer three acres of land on the east of the park to DIBC, so it can proceed with plans to build a second span alongside the existing bridge (a project which Canada and Windsor have opposed). Upon receiving title to the land, the city would get another $2 million from the company toward Riverside Park improvements.
