Remembering Jeff Buckley’s Masterpiece “Grace,” Turning 25 This Year
Twenty-five years ago, Jeff Buckley released one full-length album before he died at the age of 30. “Grace” and his cover “Hallelujah” went on to become a worldwide phenomenon.
When Columbia Records signed Jeff Buckley to a record deal, he was performing cover songs at a small Irish club in New York called Sine.
Within months, he formed a band, got a producer, wrote seven original songs and rehearsed those songs along with three cover songs for “Grace,” his debut album – and only official full-length album release. Additional works have been released posthumously.
His stunning version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” wasn’t released as a single until 10 years after he died and is now on the list of Rolling Stone’s “List of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and has been added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
